Heavy rain and flood risk forecast for Thailand’s North and Northeast

The Thai Meteorological Department ( TMD ) has issued an advisory forecasting heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Thailand from August 18 to 21, particularly in the North and Northeast.

Key facts

Summary

A monsoon trough will lie across the North and upper Northeast, while the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand will be relatively strong.

People in the affected areas are advised to take precautions against heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and rapid run-off from higher ground, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and in low-lying areas.
