Bangkok-based SiamAI said on Saturday that it had not exported AI ‌servers to China and that it complies with US export and re-export control laws.

The company was responding to reports about a US investigation into the smuggling via Thailand of $2.5 billion ‌worth of computer servers containing advanced Nvidia chips to China.

Bloomberg News identified the intermediary buyer in Thailand as OBON Corporation, a Bangkok-based IT and cloud services vendor.

An indictment handed down in the US in March accuses Super Micro Computer Inc co-founder Yih-Shyan Liaw of working with OBON and brokers to evade export controls.

Ratanaphon Wongnapachant, a former chief executive of OBON who is now the CEO of SiamAI, told Bloomberg he had already left OBON when the alleged offences occurred.

“SiamAI has not engaged in the export of AI servers to China. Siam AI is willing to cooperate in good faith with any inquiries or investigations conducted by the US government,” the company said in a statement posted on its website .

“Further, Siam AI is committed to full adherence to all applicable US export and re-export control laws and regulations.”

SiamAI Cloud is Thailand’s first official Nvidia Cloud Partner. Mr Ratanaphon hosted Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at a gala event in December 2024 that was also attended by former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, Mr Ratanaphon’s uncle.

The company statement went on to say: “SiamAI will not make any statements on behalf of OBON, but does note, as a correction to recent press reports, that SiamAI maintains independent headquarters and does not share an office with OBON.”

Among the core projects of SiamAI is a localised large language model (LLM) designed to comprehend Thai language, legal context, culture and societal nuances with greater precision than generalised global models.
