The high-profile conservation activist Siranudh “Psi” Scott has sent shockwaves across social media after he released a tearful video revealing long-hidden trauma and ongoing family conflict.
In the emotional clip, the fourth-generation member of the Bhirombhakdi family, owners of the Singha beer brand, says he no longer wishes to be referred to as a “Singha heir”.
The label obscures years of pain and a prolonged struggle for justice that he has largely faced alone, he said in the video posted on Saturday on his Facebook account , which has 625,000 followers.
“I don’t want anyone to call me a Singha heir. People don’t know the truth,” he said.
Speaking through tears, he alleged that he had been sexually assaulted multiple times by a family member during his teenage years. He further claimed that members of his family were aware of the incidents but took no action.
“Everyone in my family knows because they heard the tape where he admitted it,” he said of his abuser.
Throughout the ordeal, he said, he received no support despite seeking help from relatives and senior figures within his family.
Compounding his distress, he said he is currently being sued by his mother over inheritance assets left to him by his late grandfather Chamnong Bhirombhakdi, the former chairman of Singha Corp.
Mr Siranudh, 29, said he had been accused of being ungrateful after publicly sharing details about alleged mistreatment by a caregiver in the past.
“This year, my mother filed a lawsuit against me to claim property my grandfather gave me,” he said. “She calls me an ungrateful child because I spoke out about what my caregiver did.
“When I asked senior members in the family for help, they told me to apologise to my mother.”
He said he felt unable to continue living within a family environment that, in his words, failed to recognise his dignity or show empathy for his experiences.
“I don’t know what to do. I know I cannot live like this,” he said. “I cannot stay with a family or a clan that does not value my humanity or understand my pain.
“I’m sorry for causing everyone stress, but I cannot live with people like this,” he said, breaking down in tears.
Mr Siranudh, whose father is Scottish, is also known as “Merman” for his long-distance swimming prowess and advocacy for the marine environment. He is the founder of Sea You Strong — a volunteer-driven initiative focused on ocean preservation and environmental education.
In April last year, he was in the media spotlight after clashing with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation and being dismissed from an advisory role amid allegations of inappropriate behaviour.
Some praised him for his conservation efforts, while others criticised him for being abrasive and confrontational, and taking advantage of his position for personal gain.
